Travis Introduces "Tuesday Tips"

Travis announces its new “Tuesday Tips” blog that contains helpful suggestions and instructions for various functions in either our desktop or web-based systems. On the first Tuesday of each month, “Tuesday Tips” will discuss and demonstrate a feature in the system that we find our Users asking about or an aspect of the system that is used often.

Enhancements are added to our systems throughout the year, and “Tuesday Tips” will describe some of these new features so new Users may take full advantage of what our systems have to offer. In addition, “Tuesday Tips” will also describe steps to complete current functions that may show a long-time User a more efficient way to do business.

Our first “Tuesday Tips” blog focuses on setting up a new workstation to access any one of Travis’ desktop systems: TravisCobra, TravisBilling, or TravisFlex. This is the install process you follow whether you will be using the desktop system for the first time or you already have a workstation that currently utilizes the desktop system. After installing the desktop system on the workstation, you set up the new workstation by indicating which folder the desktop system should pull data from. This workstation setup process is outlined in the steps given below:

Steps to Setup a New Workstation:

1. Run the Workstation “setup.exe” file and follow the prompts.

When running the Workstation “setup.exe” file, you should not be required to enter an access or validation code. If you are asked to enter an access or validation code, make sure you are running the correct “setup.exe” file.

2. Once you have run the “setup.exe” file and the process completes, create “aliases” whose data path will point to the data:

a. Verify or add the alias names by clicking Start > Run, and typing “Aliascfg” and pressing “Enter” or clicking “OK.”

b. The following alias names that need to be created are:

  • For TravisCobra workstations: Cobra_DB and Cobra_Stru
  • For TravisFlex workstations: Flex_DB and Flex_Stru
  • For TravisBilling workstations: rbill_DB and rbill_Stru

c. The first alias is directed to your data folder, while the second is directed to the “stru” folder within the data folder. This process is further described in the example below.

d. The Index Type will remain “ADT.”

e. The data path is the location of your data folder on the server/shared drive. You can copy the data path from another workstation that already accesses TravisCobraCS/TravisFlex/TravisBilling, or enter it manually. For example, if your data folder on the server/shared drive is the Z: drive:

  • For TravisCobra Users: The server/shared drive could be Z:\Cobra, and your data path for alias Cobra_DB would then be Z:\Cobra, and the data path for alias Cobra_Stru would be Z:\Cobra\stru.
  • For TravisFlex Users: The server/shared drive could be Z:\Flex, and your data path for alias Flex_DB would then be Z:\Flex , and the data path for alias Flex_Stru would be Z:\Flex\stru.
  • For TravisBilling Users: The server/shared drive could be Z:\Tbill, and your data path for alias rbill_DB would be Z:\Tbill and the data path for alias rbill_Stru would be Z:\Tbill\stru.

The drive used in this example is the Z drive. You may choose to setup the workstation using any one of your available drives.

3. Once all of this is complete, you will also need to create a shortcut to the application on any new workstation(s).

If you are running the install on a 64-bit Operating System, the workstation DLL files need to be copied into the “syswow64” folder as well as the “system32” folder.
