COBRA Update on the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA)

Effective June 1, 2010, the ARRA language, ARRA posters, and “Request for Treatment as an Assistance Eligible Individual (AEI)” will not be included automatically in the default letters prepared by TravisCobraTM and WebCOBRA for individuals with a qualifying event on or after June 1, 2010.

The most recent ARRA extension provided under the Continuing Extension Act of 2010 extended the premium subsidy for AEIs to a qualifying event that was (i) a termination of employment during the period beginning with September 1, 2008 and ending with May 31, 2010 or (ii) a qualifying event that was a reduction of hours occurring at any point from September 1, 2008 through May 31, 2010 followed by an involuntary termination occurring on or after March 2, 2010 and by May 31, 2010.

Travis is closely monitoring congressional activities regarding a possible extension (likely to include a retroactive component) and will update our systems quickly if such a bill becomes law.
