TravisCobra: Our Long-Term Plan

One question that we have heard is, ‘Are you going to continue to support TravisCobra?’ The answer is resoundingly YES!

TravisCobra, and its DOS predecessor, has been running smoothly for 23 years and has a devoted user base. We believe in client hosted COBRA software, and we’ll be supporting it for years and years to come.

When Travis unveiled the web-based WebCOBRA.com system in 2005, we offered that system as an alternative to, rather than an upgrade from, TravisCobra. We’ve always planned to support and update both COBRA systems indefinitely.

History of TravisCobra

TravisCobra was first marketed as the Corporate Cobra Manager in 1986, after the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) was passed 1985, and for the past 23 years, TravisCobra has been the most widely used COBRA administration system on the market.

When the system was first introduced, it was in a DOS-based form, and over the years, as new technologies would emerge, TravisCobra would always evolve with them.

By 1995, the system looked like this:

The first version of TravisCobra for Windows was a huge upgrade from the DOS-based system of 1986, but with still obvious room for additional improvements.

Today, the TravisCobra system looks like this:

The system has come a very long way from its early years, and we are still committed to ensuring it is always up-to-date and following the latest trends.

What’s Next?

With current product improvement plans stretching past 2015, Travis Software has no plans to end the life of TravisCobra. With hundreds of customers and many thousands of users, we take very seriously the obligation to keep the system well supported and updated.

The TravisCobra system is the cornerstone of Travis Software, the success of which has allowed our team of experts to develop additional software products. We have just as many ideas for enhancements to TravisCobra as WebCOBRA on the Ideabook—read through them and suggest others at ideabook.travisoft.com.
